Hunton Steam Gathering was founded in 1985 by David Robinson, local landlord and steam engine enthusiast, with the help of local villagers and fellow vintage collectors.  The first rally was held behind the village pub on land belonging to local farmers.  It attracted more than 1000 people, far more than expected, expecially as the weather was bad that year.

The show has raised a great deal of money over thyhe years to supply play equipment, landscape the village green, buy picnic tables and seats, erect a footbridge over the beck and supply litter bins for the village of Hunton.

In 1994, for the 10th rally, the show moved to land on the outskirts of the village and the following year it expanded to a two day event with live music and a barbeque on the Saturday night.

The expansion of the rally also saw the introduction of a committee.  The steam gathering has done much more than just help the village of Hunton.  It has made donations of thousands of pounds to local charities, including Yorkshire Cancer, Macmillam Nurses, North Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the local village school, St Johns Ambulance and local Scout groups.

Tyne Tees celebrity Andy Kluz presents the trophies each year with a donation on his behalf made to the Butterwick Hospital fund.  The show now attracts in excess of 7000 people over the two days, which include events such as tractor pulling, helicopter rides, a large vintage tractor selection, vintage and classic cars, over a dozen steam engines, a falconry display, muzzle loaders and a large craft marquee.

In 2008, the event had to be cancelled at short notice due to flooding (see gallery).  This has been the only time the event has not been held suring its 24 year history.  The committee are working hard to make sure the 2009 event is bigger and bettwe than ever and your support will make sure the Hunton Steam Gathering continues on into the future.
